A portrait leaves us to imagine someone’s personality, their attire, or a moment in history. A recent exhibition at the Bendigo Art Gallery in Australia demonstrates how artefacts can bring these visions to life.

The exhibition, Tudors to Windsors: British Royal Portraits looks back on the British monarchy’s rich history through portraits on loan from the National Portrait Gallery, London and other galleries. Dating as far back as the 16th Century, the exhibition displays the striking portraits alongside historic fashion, armour and personal effects. It provides an amazing insight into the lavish lifestyle of the royals, as well as the development of British art across the centuries. The portraits showcase the work of artists such as Sir Peter Lely, Sir Godfrey Kneller and Cecil Beaton.

We’re extremely proud to say that some of our very own gloves are displayed at the exhibition. These include the Coronation glove of Queen Elizabeth II and a pair worn by Queen Elizabeth I.

Livia Michelini, Managing Director for Dents Australia, commented, “Dents continues to have an association with the Royal family by way of the Royal Warrant of Appointment to His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales, for the manufacture of gloves and the brand’s mark of high quality is also appreciated by Australian retailers and consumers who have been purchasing Dents gloves for more than 150 years.”

She added, “It’s wonderful to share an important heritage and to gain a truly fascinating insight into the life of historic British royalty by the way of the unique portraits and fashion effects.”

The Tudors to Windsors exhibition is open at the Bendigo Art Gallery until mid-July 2019, and we’re thrilled to be a part of it!
