The history of Selfridges really came to light in the popular ITV series, which highlighted Harry Gordon Selfridge’s ambition to bring the delights and glamour of the American department store to London in 1909. Soon after, the British department store was no longer just a place to shop, but a social hub for the middle and upper classes. Whilst, the displays in the store’s windows made quite the fashion spectacle, and there’s every chance a pair of our very own gloves were admired by onlookers.
Dents’ earlier presence in the store was reinforced in the very first episode of the ITV drama which featured our women’s silk lined leather glove in berry. It cannot be doubted that this glove is a timeless classic and continues to be a bestseller.
In the same way that the Selfridges department store has evolved with the times, we have adapted our glove designs for the needs of the modern man and woman. Here’s to the next 100 years working alongside one another!
Today, an extensive line of Dents gloves and accessories are still sold at Selfridges' iconic stores and website. Take a look at the collection here.
